Video Review

Martial Arts Television

Martial Arts Television gives the viewer a rare opportunity to meet four of the leading figures in the world of modern martial arts, listen to their opinions, and witness some amazing demonstrations of karate.

This program traces karate's history from its origins in China, through its development in Okinawa as the unarmed art of choice of the aristocratic warrior, to its introduction into 1920s Japan and beyond. All the masters featured in this program have played, and continue to play, important roles in the fourth part of the metamorphosis of art internationally popular past time focused on the development of good health and strong character in its exponents.

Made and broadcast nationwide by one of America's largest cable TV companies this fast moving and factual presentation offers a fascinating glimpse of karate as it was, and as it is now.

Featuring:

Fumio Demura (Shito Ryu karate) a pioneer of karate in North America and one of its top-selling authors. A student of karate master Ryusho Sakagami, he is best known to the public at large for his role as "Mr. Miyagi's" action double in the Karate Kid movies.

Morio Higaonna (Goju Ryu karate) has been a student of An'ichi Miyagi.
